Finding Data

In your last lab, you should have identified a research question that was interesting to you, and you should have formulated it as a causal question about the relationship between an independent and a dependent variable. In this lab, you should begin by identifying data sources that include at least measures of your independent and dependent variables. Please find a data source, which includes a measure of both variables that you care about. Provide a link to the data, as well as a brief description.

Most students find data sources in the Harvard Dataverse, or by using a canonical data source like the Quality of Government data for cross-national research or the General Social Survey for research on individual behavior and decision-making in the U.S.

Note that your data source should include the raw data set — a spreadsheet or table including full values for each case, not just summary statistics or statistical analyses. You need to be able to do your own statistical work from scratch!

Initial Regression

Carry out a regression analysis to get an initial sense of the relationship involved in your question of interest. What do you learn?
